From: About.com Home Renovations

Readers sometimes approach me about where they can find plaster or
tin elements for the ceiling. Â My response is to direct
them first to an architectural salvage yard, and if that fails, I
recommend that they purchase vinyl ceiling tiles from a supplier
like Ceilume. In a few cases, readers have said, "But vinyl ceiling
tiles aren't authentic!" True, they may not be consistent with what
you previously had. Â And they may not be authentic to
the time period of your home. Â But it's important to
remember some things: Elements that are out of reach and cannot be
touched can pass examination better than things that you can
touch. So, it's vital that ...

Ceiling Fan & Chandelier All in One
The ceiling fans you see in local home stores might be boring you,
because they don’t usually get the more modern or luxurious

with your decor but won’t make a statement. Why have just a
ceiling fan when you can have a ceiling fan [...]
Bathroom Renovation Ideas

Looking for bathroom renovation ideas? I used to
think:Â Gosh, who really needs ideas?Â
Isn't it obvious? Then, I started wracking my own brain for ideas
and came up with squat. So, I began looking around...
One thing that's pretty cool is using tin ceiling tiles in lieu of
beadboard. Beadboard is nice, but it's hardly unique
anymore. The pictured bathroom remodeling idea from
Rejuvenation Hardware, of Portland, Oregon, apparently uses tin
tiles capped by a chair rail. Of course, the real
features of this bathroom are Rejuvenation's La Grande sconce
lights next to the mirror. Kinda gives your mug that
instant sepia glow. Image:Â Copyright Rejuvena...
How-To: Drill into a ceiling without getting plaster in your face

Instructables has a good thing going with their regular "theme"
contests. They just finished up with paracord; now they're starting
in on coffee cups. Reminds me of the "MacGyver Challenge" that
ReadyMade magazine used to run back before their facelift. Shown
above is user bertus52x11's simple hack for catching the plaster
that would otherwise fall everywhere when you drill into the
ceiling. Read more | Permalink | Comments | Read more articles in

Kitchen Tile Ideas - A Few Surprises Here

When I was looking for some kitchen tile ideas, I found a few
unexpected things: There is such a thing as ready-to-hang kitchen
tile backsplashes. These are made by Broan and fit
well behind almost any stove. They look quite good,
too. This eliminates mortaring, tile cutting,
grouting, and all of the other mess associated with tiling. Metal
kitchen tiles look pretty good (pictured). These come
in 6" by 6" sizes and just peel and stick to clean
surfaces. You can easily put up a kitchen backsplash
in a day with metal tiles like these. Avoid the monotony of
same-sized kitchen floor tiles just by introducing a tile of
another size. For instance, 12" square and 1...
Home Remodeling: What Comes First?
Q: A reader asks: "I was reading your very helpful article about
how to organize your home for a remodel, but had a question about
when to do the ceilings? "We are considering buying a home that has
asbestos popcorn ceilings in some of the rooms. When should those
be done? "Just to give you an idea of what we are thinking:
Removing the asbestos popcorn ceiling Expanding the kitchen: moving
1 wall back and removing a half wall Painting the whole house
Reflooring the whole house (carpet in bedrooms, tile in kitchen and
bathrooms, wood everywhere else) Expanding the master bathroom and
creating a walk-in closet "We initially had been planning to tackle
the ceiling, paint, then floors because we figured those would be
quick jobs and the house would look a million time...
